Hackers’ power is set to grow exponentially as more and more devices are fitted with an internet connection.
This is the phrase used to describe gadgets which are connected to the web, which include everything from smart lightbulbs to cars with internet connections.
Tech experts warned the Energy & Commerce Committee that hackers could kill vast numbers of people by taking control of these devices, which often feature very low levels of security.
Bruce Schneier, one of the world’s foremost computer security experts, told the commitee: “Computers have permeated our lives. The Internet now affects the world in a direct physical manner.
